ASAKUSA HOTEL

A project in charge of the architectural design for a new small hotel in the center of Asakusa. On a compact site, the building shape harmonizes with the townscape while at the same time maximizes the floor space.
In large-scale hotels, rooms are often planned in a rectangular shape. However, creating such rooms is difficult in this small-scale building, so the main task was to find the best solution in an irregular shape. This resulted in a unique room that feels much larger than its actual area.
浅草の中心街のなかにスモールホテルを新築する計画において、建築設計を担当したプロジェクト。コンパクトな敷地において、街並みに調和する建築の形状にしながら同時に最大限の床面積を確保しました。
大規模ホテルでは整った長方形のユニットで客室を計画することが多いなかで、この小規模な建築ではそのような客室づくりは難しく、いびつな形のなかで最適解を求める作業となり、結果としてとてもユニークでかつ実際の面積値以上に広さを感じられるような客室とすることができました。
DESIGN CHALLENGE
Its facade design emanates dignity by combining vertical lines, an emphasis on symmetry, and originality evoking the uniqueness of Asakusa's "chic" achieved through combining expressive finishes using Japan's advanced construction techniques.

A room plan boasting a high capacity to floor space ratio without feeling cramped, achieved by interlocking a small raised tatami room, compact and functional furniture, and an irregular planar shape.
畳敷きの小上がりやコンパクトで機能的な家具などといびつな平面形状とを連動させることで生まれた、面積に対する宿泊定員の比率が高く、かつ窮屈さを感じない客室計画
