BUNKA HOSTEL

A renovated and refurbished hostel hotel located in the heart of Tokyo's popular tourist destination, Asakusa. 
Bunka Hostel was completed as a 128-bed hostel and sake bar/traditional Japanese casual restaurant located on the first floor with UDS Ltd.  Opening in 2015, Bunka Hostel lead the way in taking a modern approach to Japanese design and has been highly praised globally as a pioneer to setting the stage to designer urban hostels.

浅草の下町風情あふれる商店街に位置しながら、ほとんど使われなくなってしまっていた中古のビルを、居酒屋と128床のホステルの複合施設として再生させたプロジェクトです。表層的な「和」の表現を意識的に回避し、自分たちが好む清潔感や機能性を追求することが結果的に現代の日本を感じていただけると信じ、ブランディングやデザインに取り組みました。

地域に開き、商店街に活気を取り戻すきっかけともなったこのホステルは、デザインホステルの先駆けの一つとして、国内外で高く評価いただきました。
